Field Engineer / Specialist (FS) – RSSOM

Toronto, Ontario Full-Time | Permanent Salary: $95,000 – $145,000 CAD

O'Hara Search Group is proud to partner with Bantrel in the recruitment of a Field Engineer / Specialist (FS) – RSSOM to support one of Canada's most significant transit infrastructure projects, the Ontario Line.

This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a transformative transportation initiative that will connect communities across Toronto through 15 stations and over 15 kilometres of new transit infrastructure. Delivered through a Public-Private Partnership (P3) model, the Ontario Line will serve the region for decades to come, backed by a 30-year operations and maintenance program.


About the Role


The Field Engineer / Specialist (FS) will support the delivery of critical Ontario Line infrastructure, with responsibilities focused on either the:

  • Step-Up Substation (SUSS) – a traction power facility that will provide permanent power to future Ontario Line stations and systems; or
  • Operations, Maintenance and Storage Facility (OMSF) – a major operations hub that will house maintenance facilities, yard operations, power systems, and the Operations Control Centre.


Reporting to the Lead Field Specialist, you will play a key role in monitoring construction activities, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, supporting field coordination efforts, and helping deliver safe, high-quality project outcomes.

This position offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced infrastructure professionals while gaining exposure to large-scale transit construction involving multiple stakeholders, complex interfaces, and technically challenging environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with project requirements, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and support the creation and maintenance of a safe work environment.
  • Review contractor submissions including risk assessments, method statements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and related documentation.
  • Attend inspections and witness testing activities on behalf of the project team.
  • Monitor contractor quality assurance activities and support the resolution of non-conformances.
  • Assist construction teams in planning construction methods and resolving engineering and field-related issues.
  • Interpret engineering and construction drawings and review contractor and vendor documentation.
  • Identify and help resolve interface issues between disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Track and verify installed quantities for project reporting.
  • Review field change requests, extra work orders, and back-charge notices.
  • Support project controls and construction management processes.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and verifying engineering material requirements.
  • Produce and maintain daily construction reports.
  • Review contractor schedules and provide constructability feedback and lessons learned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent field experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience in infrastructure, transportation, or heavy civil construction.
  • Experience in field engineering, construction supervision, or site-based project delivery roles.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, quality requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction drawings.
  • Familiarity with RSSOM systems, including traction power, signaling, communications, or rolling stock integration, is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Navisworks is an asset.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance and quality management principles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety excellence.

Compensation

Base Salary: $95,000 – $145,000 CAD

Compensation will be based on the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and overall alignment with the position requirements. This range reflects the expected compensation for this specific role and location and may vary for similar positions across different projects or regions.
