Field Engineer

O'Hara Search Group is happy to be seeking a Field Engineer on behalf of our Client based in Saskatchewan.

About the Role

  • We are seeking a Field Engineer – CSA to support construction execution on major mining and heavy industrial projects in Saskatchewan. This is a site-based role best suited to someone who is comfortable working on project-based field locations and supporting active construction in a hands-on environment.
  • The Field Engineer helps ensure construction activities align with design intent, drawings, specifications, scope, and quality requirements, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and execution. The role serves as a key technical link between contractors, field supervision, office-based engineering teams, and engineers of record.
  • This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the work, solving technical issues in real time, and supporting quality construction through strong field presence, sound judgment, and clear communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day field engineering support for civil, structural, and architectural construction activities.
  • Review contractor submittals, drawings, and technical documentation to support field execution.
  • Manage and respond to RFIs, resolving issues at the field level where possible and escalating more complex matters when required.
  • Perform field inspections to verify quality, installed work, and contractor-reported progress.
  • Review and sign inspection and test documentation, attend critical inspections, and support contractor quality surveillance activities.
  • Identify, document, and help resolve non-conformances, field changes, and constructability issues that may affect safety, quality, cost, or schedule.
  • Prepare or support field sketches, field change notices, field change reports, and other technical field documentation as required.
  • Support walkdowns, punch listing, punch closure, and turnover documentation to help ensure work is completed and handed over correctly.
  • Coordinate closely with contractors, superintendents, quality personnel, and technical teams to address interface issues and maintain construction progress.
  • Promote safe work practices through regular engagement in inspections, meetings, and field activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • P.Eng. designation in good standing, or eligibility for registration with APEGS in Saskatchewan.
  • Experience working with contractors and subcontractors in an industrial construction environment.
  • Strong background in heavy civil construction, including earthworks, piling, concrete, and foundations.
  • Experience in industrial facilities and building construction, including structural steel, cladding, roofing, and interior finishes, is an asset.
  • Understanding of soil conditions, concrete technologies, formwork, and field quality requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, construction, quality, and contractor teams.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while supporting rotation- or shift-based field coverage as required.

Why This Role

  • This role offers the opportunity to work directly in the field on large-scale industrial construction, where your input has a visible impact on quality, progress, and execution. Rather than being removed from the work, the Field Engineer is part of the day-to-day construction environment and plays an important role in helping teams resolve issues and keep work moving safely and efficiently.
  • It is a strong fit for engineers who enjoy practical problem-solving, contractor coordination, inspections, and technical support during active construction. The role provides broad exposure to site execution, quality processes, field documentation, technical issue management, and turnover activities across CSA scopes.

Work Environment

  • This position is based in Saskatchewan and supports work in an active mining and heavy industrial construction setting. It is a field-focused role that requires regular interaction with contractors, superintendents, technical teams, and office-based engineering support.
  • The environment is fast-paced and execution-driven, with daily responsibilities tied to inspections, technical queries, quality verification, field issue resolution, and contractor coordination. Candidates should be comfortable working in active construction areas and responding to changing site priorities in a practical and timely way.
