Construction Manager

We are currently seeking a qualified Construction Manager to join our Infrastructure team, based out of Toronto ON. The Construction Manager will manage the organization and direction of project construction activities and oversee total site management including supervision of Health and Safety, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule and logistics and construction planning. Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and clients are satisfied. 


Bantrel Infrastructure, is a key sub-vendor to Bechtel, have been appointed the Delivery Partner within an integrated team with the customer, Metrolinx, for the Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project and will work in a Delivery Partner role within an integrated team with the customer organization for a Subway Project in Toronto, Ontario. The project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment, being performed by two key PPP Contractors and multiple advanced early works (EAW) packages Contractors and two large Progressive Design Build Contracts. The scope includes both managing the Works associated with the program and with the individual construction projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for construction activities and logistics planning of construction activities on a dedicated geographical area of the Ontario Line.
  • Monitor the contractor’s implementation of their installation sequencing, schedule, labour planning and interface with adjacent contractors.
  • Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues. Conduct thorough constructability reviews of detailed design and construction packages.
  • Collaborate with the contractor to implement H&S best practices and initiatives. Drives the safety culture on the project.
  • Monitor implementation of the Contractor’s quality program(s). Monitors the Contractor’s quality assurance activities to ensure materials and equipment comply with design plans and specifications. 
  • Support the Project Controls team in the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports. Reviews and provides input to project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule. Provides input to periodic reporting. 
  • Ensures the implementation of the project construction procedures  
  • Coordinates with the Planner to review the Contractor’s programs for acceptance. 
  • Supports the review of the contractor’s means and methods and propose alternative execution approaches for the benefit of the program overall.
  • Coordinates with the Contract Administrator on contract administration and activities affecting the contract administration operation. 
  • Aids Project Manager in administering major contract changes and represents the client in contractual discussions and negotiations. Oversees the implementation of contract changes. 
  • Performs employee reviews for subordinate personnel and assists in their development. Ensures that subordinate personnel receive progressive training. 
  • Reviews and provides input to the project staffing plan for construction engineers and associated personnel.  


Job Knowledge: 

  • Engineering, procurement, and construction of infrastructure mega-projects. 
  • Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility. 
  • The background, basic scope, and delivery model for the OLS Project. 
  • The make-up of the OLS Project PDT and key stakeholders. 
  • Heavy civil engineering and bridge construction
  • The EW3 scope of work and overview of the Project Agreement (PA). 



Qualifications

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, or 15-years of relevant experience in the absence of a degree. 
  • Experience of working on infrastructure mega-projects, preferably rail projects in urban areas. 
  • Experience of multiple project delivery functions (e.g., engineering, contracts & procurement, construction, testing & commissioning, project controls, environment, safety & health, quality). 
  • Experience of delivering rail systems or similar scope as part of multi-discipline teams within complex mega-projects. 
  • Strong leadership, relationship building and communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
