We work closely with organizations across engineering, construction, and infrastructure sectors on the delivery of critical hiring needs. This role sits within a major potash development project and will play an important part in supporting field inspections, technical issue resolution, and construction quality across mechanical and piping scopes during a critical phase of project execution.

The Role

  • The Mechanical & Piping Field Engineer - Night Shift is responsible for performing field inspections and participating in construction walk-downs to ensure work in the field aligns with mechanical design intent, project requirements, and quality expectations. The role acts as a key technical link between the owner, engineers of record, and the construction team for mechanical engineering-related work.
  • This position is well suited to someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment, resolving technical issues in real time, and maintaining strong visibility over construction quality, field changes, and turnover requirements. It is a high-impact role within a joint venture and integrated project team environment, with clear ownership during an important delivery stage.

About the Project

  • Bantrel is part of the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) executing engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. Following completion of the Definition Phase Study, the project is now in the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure, and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published total installed cost of approximately US $5.3 to $5.7 billion, the project represents one of the largest private investments in Canada and is being delivered using a combination of established tools and new technologies.

Location & Schedule

  • This is a camp-based position located in Leroy, Saskatchewan, operating on a 14 days on / 7 days off rotation on night shift. The position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. The opportunity is aligned to key delivery milestones and offers the chance to contribute directly to project success in a site-focused role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Address mechanical technical queries and non-conformance reports related to the mechanical design, including participating in walkdowns and completing surveillance audits of key mechanical elements to confirm design intent is being met or corrected where required.
  • Act as the link between the Owner, Engineers of Record, and the construction team for all mechanical engineering-related work in the field.
  • Complete mandatory mechanical inspections for all infrastructure within scope, including lifting equipment inspections at a minimum.
  • Review contractor submittals related to mechanical scope, including project execution plans, quality plans, inspection and test plans, and inspection records.
  • Perform field inspections of mechanical construction work and issue quality incident reports where required.
  • Manage technical queries, field change notices, field change reports, and non-conformance reports associated with the mechanical discipline.
  • Communicate mechanical design changes and field engineering changes with both construction and engineering teams to maintain alignment during execution.
  • Use project systems and ICC platforms effectively to submit technical queries, notices, reports, and other required field documentation.
  • Review installed quantities, participate in construction walk-downs, and verify closure of punch items.
  • Review turnover documentation and support mechanical completion activities to help ensure work is documented and handed over correctly.
  • Confirm that minimum maintenance and inspection activities for mechanical components are being completed by the contractor.
  • Participate in required BHP training, site risk and control ownership activities, contractor quality meetings, and reporting related to mechanical engineering deliverables, execution, and turnover.
  • Review material receiving reports and warehousing activities to help verify correct equipment and materials are being delivered and managed appropriately.
  • Prepare field sketches for temporary facilities when required and support other project responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Candidates should have a recognized bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience. A Professional Engineering license valid in the Province of Saskatchewan will be considered an asset. The ideal candidate will have 8 to 12 years of relevant experience within mining, mineral processing, or related industrial environments, with underground mining experience considered an asset.

Technical Knowledge

  • The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of quality management processes and systems, ISO standards, and auditing practices related to major project delivery or program management. They should also bring functional knowledge of engineering management practices in a multidisciplinary environment, including familiarity with 3D data-centric platforms. A working knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, commissioning, project controls, health and safety, environmental, community, and risk workflows on large capital projects will be important for success in this role.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including functional managers, discipline leads, clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities are also important, including experience with root cause analysis and a practical approach to resolving field-related mechanical issues.
